Rumba (International Latin)

Rumba can be traced back to Cuba, where African slaves created dances imitating barnyard animals and everyday tasks - the cucaracha was a representation of stomping on cockroaches, and the spot turn came from walking around a cartwheel.  This raw form of Rumba traveled to America and borrowed elements of the Cuban Bolero and Guaracha.  The British ballroom instructor Pierre Margolie visited Havana in 1947 and helped to bring the Rumba to the world.

Rumba is danced in both International Latin and American Rhythm styles of dance.  However, the timing of Latin American Rumba differs from the timing of American Rumba.
